[Cell death protein 6] The Caenorhabditis elegans gene CED6 has been isolated initially as a gene affecting the elimination of cells undergoing cell death by apoptosis (Ellis et al, 1991; Liu and Hengartner, 1999). The gene encodes an adaptor protein that participates in a signal transduction pathway mediating the specific recognition and engulfment of cells undergoing cell death by apoptosis (see also: efferocytosis).
