[Cell death-inducing DFF45-like effector] The genes CIDEA [Cell death-inducing DFF45-like effector A; also: cell death activator CIDE-A] and CIDEB [Cell death-inducing DFF45-like effector B; also: cell death activator CIDE-B] encode highly related mammalian proteins with homology to the N-terminal region of the regulatory 45 kDa subunit of the DNA fragmentation factor, DFF. Both proteins activate cell death by apoptosis and DNA fragmentation, which can be blocked by interaction with DFF-45. Apoptosis mediated by CIDEA
