a composite cytokine consiting of CLF-1 [Cytokine-like factor-1] and CLC [cardiotrophin-like cytokine] that preferentially interacts with the CNTF receptor and activates the gp130 signal transducer (Elson et al, 2000; Plun-Favreau et al, 2001). The factor is sometimes being referred to as CNTF II.
Forger et al (2003) have demonstrated that this heterodimeric cytokine binds to CNTF receptor-alpha and enhances the survival of developing motoneurons in vitro and in vivo.
Tormo et al (2012) have reported that CLC/CLF is more restricted in its receptor specificity than CNTF in that it activates only the tripartite CNTF
