[chicken myeloid antimicrobial peptide 27] This protein has been identified by van Dijk et al (2005) in chicken bone marrow cells. The protein belongs to the family of cathelicidins, is related to bovine myeloid antimicrobial peptides (BMAP-27, BMAP-28, BMAP-34). The sequence of CMAP27 shows that it is identical with Cathelicidin 2 and Fowlicidin-2 (Xiao et al, 2006). Proteolytic cleavage probably gives rise to a 27 amino acid antimicrobial peptide that may play a role in chicken innate host defense.
