[Contactin-associated protein-like 4]; this protein is known also as CASPR4 [Contactin-associated protein 4] (Spiegel et al, 2002), and the cDNA has been identified independently as KIAA1763. This multidomain transmembrane protein belongs to the family of Neurexins. The mouse and human cDNAs have been cloned by Spiegel et al (2002).
CNTNAP4 is highly enriched in developing murine interneurons and is a presynaptic protein involved in dopaminergic and GABAergic synaptic transmission of inhibitory interneuron synapses. Loss of CNTNAP4 leads to a reduction in the output of cortical GABAergic basket cells
