[Cyclic AMP-responsive element-binding protein 3-like protein 2; cAMP-responsive element-binding protein 3-like protein 2]. This transcription factor has been identified independently as BBF2H7 [BBF2 human homolog on chromosome 7] (Kondo et al, 2007). CREB3L2 is an ER-resident transmembrane protein activated in response to endoplasmic reticulum stress. The factor participates in the unfolded protein response, a translational and transcriptional programme activated during endoplasmic reticulum stress. This involves cleavage in the Golgi compartment and translocation of cleaved fragments into the nucleus, where they activate target genes by binding to cAMP response elements (Kondo et al, 2007).
