[cysteine-rich with EGF-like domains 2] This cysteine-rich protein with EGF-like domains has been identified by Rupp et al (2002). CRELD2 has been shown to be an endoplasmic reticulum stress-inducible protein (Oh-Hashi et al, 1009, 2010).
CRELD2 is ubiquitously expressed during development and by mature tissues and has been implicated as a regulator of alpha4beta2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor expression (Ortiz et al, 2005).
Oh-hashi et al (2011) have reported that the protein is not only localized in the ER-Golgi apparatus but also secreted. Its extracellular function is not known.
Hartley et al (2013) have reported that CRELD2 together with MANF [mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor] (which is identical with ARMET [arginine-rich protein mutated in early stage tumors
