This peptide, Cys-Arg-Gly-Arg-Arg-Ser-Thr, has been identified in a screen of phage display libraries for peptides that home in to the vasculature in the angiogenic stages of a mouse model of pancreatic islet carcinogenesis (Joyce et al, 2003). The CRGRRST sequence is contained within the beta-chain of the pro-form of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF-B).
The peptide selectively homes in to neoplastic lesions in the pancreas and not to islet beta-cell tumors growing subcutaneously, xenotransplant tumors from a human cancer cell line, or an endogenously arising squamous cell tumor of the skin.
