This peptide has been identified in papain hydrolysates of walnut residual protein obtained as a residual byproduct after oil extraction. The peptide shows significant growth inhibitory activity on MCF-7 breast cancer cells. CTLEW induces both cell death by apoptosis and autophagy on MCF-7 cells. It also significantly inhibits the growth of Caco-2 and HeLa cancer cells, but does not show any cytotoxic activity against non-cancerous IEC-6 cells (rat intestinal epithelial cells).
