abbr. CDF (a term with multiple meanings). A growth factor of 11 kDa isolated from fetal cartilage that stimulates the sulfation of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans in cultures of chondrocytes (see also: extracellular matrix). The factor is related closely to, or is identical with, IGF (Canalis et al, 1984; Hamerman et al, 1986).
Two other proteins of 16 kDa and 22-26 kDa have been described also in the literature as CDF and these are probably distinct factors unrelated to IGF (Hiraki et al, 1987; Kato et al, 1991; Suzuki et al, 1987).
