This small peptide, INKKI, corresponds to beta-casein fragment casein-beta(26-30) ([beta-casein(26-30)]. It has been isolated from casein hydrolysates (Lebrun et al, 2004) and shows some activity resembling that of the invertebrate host defense peptide mastoparan. The peptide potentiates bradykinin action in guinea pig ileum and possesses immunostimulatory activity, stimulating phagocitic activity by resident macrophages and increasing H2O2 release from macrophages following cell activation with with Bacillus Calmette Guérin.
