abbr. CASP15. This enzyme is a member of a family of evolutionarily conserved cysteine protease proteins known as caspases. Many of these enzymes are part of a proteolytic cascade that plays a central role in cell death by apoptosis. Eckhart et al (2005) have identified caspase-15 in various mammalian species including pig, dog, and cattle. A homolog of caspase-15 is absent in the human and the mouse genome.
