Chaperone-assisted selective autophagy is a degradative process involving autophagy that utilizes BAG3 [BCL2-associated athanogene-3], the mammalian functional homolog of the Drosophila melanogaster co-chaperone Starvin. Chaperone-assisted selective autophagy differs from Chaperone-mediated autophagy, which also uses chaperones for lysosome-dependent degradation, in its requirement for ubiquitination of the substrates and the involvement of autophagy proteins.
