abbr. CDF (a term with multiple meanings), or CNDF (cholinergic neuronal differentiation factor). This factor, originally purified from conditioned medium of cardiac and skeletal muscle cells, is called also CNDF (cholinergic neuronal differentiation factor).
The enhanced survival of the motoneurons, which would have died between days 1 and 4 of culture, is accompanied by a 4-fold increase in choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) activity. CDF also increases ChAT activity in dorsal spinal cord cultures, but has no detectable effect on ChAT levels in septal or striatal neuronal cultures.
