This term, coined by Cloonan et al (2014) refers to the selective degradation, through the process of autophagy, of proteins involved in the process of ciliogenesis (formation of primary cilia). It has been observed in respiratory epithelial cells in the lungs of patients with Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The process depends on HDAC6 [histone deacetylase 6], Beclin-1, and ATG8F (MAP1LC3B [microtubule associated protein 1 light chain-3-beta]) (Cloonan et al, 2014).
