This pore-forming peptide has been deduced from a cDNA clone of Clonorchis sinensis (clonorin). Clonorin contains six invariably conserved cysteine residues highly homologous with pore-forming peptides known as amoebapores and is considered a member of the family of saposin-like proteins (see: SALIPS). Recombinant clonorin is hemolytic for rabbit erythrocytes. Clonorin is expressed developmentally in juvenile and adult flukes and localizes in the intestinal epithelium of adult flukes.
