Comet assay

The original form of this assay was described first by Östling and Johanson (1984). An Alkaline Comet Assay has been introduced by Singh et al (1988). The Comet Assay, known also as single-cell gel electrophoresis assay (SCGE) (McKelvey-Martin et al, 1993; Rojas et al, 1999; Tice et al, 2000), is a sensitive microscopic gel electrophoresis method capable of measuring DNA strand breaks in individual cells (Fairbairn et al, 1995; Gopalakrishna and Khar, 1995; Loo and Rillema, 1998; Olive and Banath, 1995).

A number of variations of this assay greatly increase the flexibility and utility of this technique for detecting various manifestations of DNA damage (e. g., single- and double-strand breaks, oxidative induced base damage, and DNA-DNA/DNA-protein crosslinking) and DNA repair in virtually any ... ... ... ... ...
