BEN constitutes a family of 11 proteins all of which contain a BEN domain (Ramjan Ali and Kim, 2012). These proteins are encoded by the polydnavirus Cotesia plutellae bracovirus, a virus that can infect the diamondback moth Plutella xylostella and also in other bracoviral genomes. All 11 BEN family genes are expressed during the entire parasitization period of P. xylostella larvae. They are expressed also in the fat body, gut, epidermis, and hemocytes in the final larval instar of parasitized moths. Transient expression of BEN family genes following injection of each viral segment containing its corresponding BEN family gene, significantly suppresses hemocyte
