[cysteine-rich single thrombospondin domain-containing protein-3] Cristin-2 has been identified in the mouse and in human tissues as one of 4 related heparin-binding proteins. Cristin-3 is identical with R-spondin-1 (Nam et al, 2006).
The protein has been shown to be a ligand for the frizzled-8 receptor and of the co-receptor LRP6 [LDL receptor-related protein 6] in vitro and in vivo. Binding to the extracellular domain of these receptors elicits canonical Wnt signaling that depends on beta-catenin and causes the expression of Wnt target genes (see also: R-spondin-1).
