The cDNA encoding the beta subunit has been cloned by Radis-Baptista et al (2006) from the South American rattlesnake Crotalus durissus terrificus. Crotacetin can be isolated from the venom of several C. durissus subspecies, but its quantitative predominance is in the venom of C. durissus cascavella.
