cytomegalovirus UL199-UL118 |
Cytomegalovirus US2 protein |
karyorrhexis |
||
This protein (also: pUL21.5) is encoded in the genome of human cytomegalovirus. Its mRNA is packaged into virions (Bresnahan WA, Shenk, 2000). Wang et al (2004) have reported that the protein is dispensable for virus replication in cultured cells. A role in immune evasion is suggested by the observation that the protein is a specific binding protein for the chemokine RANTES (CCL5). It acts as a soluble decoy receptor for RANTES and prevents the interaction with its cellular receptors.
