This protein encoded in the genome of human cytomegalovirus suppresses antigen presentation to CD8(+) cytotoxic T-lymphocytes and therefore acts as an immunoevasin, hindering viral clearance by cytotoxic T-cells. US6 inhibits peptide translocation mediated by TAP [transporter associated with antigen processing] into the endoplasmic reticulum (Lehner et al, 1997; Ahn et al, 1997).
