[Differentiation stimulating factor] Several factors have been described under this name in the literature published before 1986. In most cases it is not clear whether they are identical or distinct factors.
One activity described as D-Factor is produced by murine L929. This D-Factor promotes the differentiation of the murine myeloid leukemia cell line M1 into macrophages. It is identical with LIF.
At least some of the activities ascribed to D-Factor in the older literature may be due also to the activity of G-CSF (See also: CSF for general information about colony stimulating factors).
