[death-domain associated protein] Daxx (also known as DAP-6, death associated protein 6) is a signaling protein that binds specifically to the death domain of the FAS antigen (APO-1) (Yang et al, 1997). Overexpression of Daxx enhances cell death by apoptosis mediated by APO-1 and activates the c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) pathway (Torii et al, 1999). Down-regulation of Daxx expression by RNA interference is also associated with increased cell death by apoptosis (Chen and Chen, 2003).
