[decoy receptor]
a general term for soluble secreted proteins derived from cytokine receptors. They lack transmembrane and intracellular domains and may be the products of splice isoforms or obtained by proteolytic cleavage (see also: receptor shedding). Such proteins may function as extracellular antagonists to signaling by cytokines. For specific receptors see also: TRAIL receptor-3, TRAIL receptor-4, DcR-3, TNFRSF22, TNFRSF23. For examples of artificially engineered decoy receptors interfering with the bioactivities of VEGF and angiopoietins see also: VEGF-Trap, VEGF-Grab,
