[Beta-defensin 25] In humans, this member of the Beta-defensins is being referred to as Defensin-beta-125 [Beta-defensin 125]; approved gene symbol: DEFB125. The exact function of this defensin is not known; it may play a role in innate immunity similar to other defensins. The mouse gene has been cloned by Hu et al (2014) who reported expression in the epididymis, where it is down-regulated by castration and dependent on testicular factors and not on androgens. The human gene (Rodríguez-Jiménez et al, 2003) is also expressed in the epididymis. Chen et al (2017) have reported enriched expression in ependymal cells
