Dermatoxin [SLGSFLKGVGTTLASVGKVVSDQFGKLLQAGQ] is an antimicrobial peptide extracted from the skin of a single specimen of the tree frog Phyllomedusa bicolor (Two-colored leaf frog) (Rana bicolor). The peptide is a member of the family of dermaseptins. The peptide is bactericidal towards mollicutes (wall-less eubacteria such as Acholeplasma laidlawii and Spiroplasma melliferum) and Gram-positive eubacteria (Bacillus megaterium, Corynebacterium glutamicum and Staphylococcus aureus), and also, though to a lesser extent, towards Gram-negative eubacteria (Burkholderia cepacia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhimurium and Sinorhizobium meliloti).
