[eosinophil-directed chemotactic inhibitory factor] This biochemically uncharacterized factor is found in the serum of guinea pigs treated with complete Freund's adjuvant (Hirashima et al, 1984). ECIF selectively affects chemotaxis of eosinophils in response to a T-cell derived chemotactic factor, which has been isolated from DNP-ascaris extract induced skin lesions (Hirashima et al, 1984).
ECIF activity in the serum is associated with fractions of 70 and 12.5 kDa but the 70 kDa for most likely consists of low molecular weight aggregates. ECIF does not bind to Con A-Sepharose.
The conditioned medium of spleen cells treated with the adjuvant contains an activity of 12.5 kDa,
