[Erythroid differentiation regulator] This factor is being referred to also as ERDR1 [Erythroid differentiation regulator 1].
This activity was detected in serum-free conditioned media of WEHI-3 cells. It induces the synthesis of hemoglobin in human and murine erythroleukaemia cell lines but does not cause terminal differentiation (Dörmer et al, 2004). The EDR gene encodes a protein of 209 amino acids. The gene is expressed also in human stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells. The murine gene is expressed in many normal tissues, including CD34(+) cells.
