[EEC]
[endogenous erythroid colonies] This term refers to colonies of erythroid cells developing in a colony formation assay using peripheral blood cells from patients with Polycythemia vera, characterized by an elevated hematocrit and red blood cell mass. The growth of these colonies does not depend on the presence of exogenous erythropoietin and is considered as one of the characteristics of this myeloproliferative disease (Klippel and Pahl, 2004).
