[epithelial membrane protein 3] This gene has been referred to as YMP (Ben-Porath et al, 1998). The cDNA encoding this protein has been cloned by Ben-Porath and Benvenisty (1996) and Taylor and Suter (1996). The EMP3 amino acid sequence is 41 % identical with PMP22 [peripheral myelin protein-22] and 38% identical with EMP2, EMP3 is expressed widely in adult tissues and shows highest expression in peripheral blood leukocytes and low expression in the brain. It may be involved in cell proliferation and cell-cell interactions.
