ERN1

(approved gene symbol) [Endoplasmic reticulum-to-nucleus signaling 1] This protein is being referred to also as IRE1A [IRE1-alpha; Inositol-requiring protein 1-alpha] or IRE1 [Inositol-requiring protein 1] (for a related protein see also: ERN2).

The gene encoding ERN1has been cloned by Tirasophon et al (1998) who concluded that human ERN1 is equivalent to a Saccharomyces cerevisia gene that functions as a sensor for the unfolded protein response, monitoring the status of unfolded protein inside the ER lumen. The protein is a type 1 transmembrane protein containing a Ser/Thr protein kinase domain and a domain ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
