abbr. ECI (a term with multiple meanings). This factor of 65 kDa was isolated from the conditioned media of phorbol ester-treated U937 cells stimulated with phorbol esters (Nakano et al, 1999). ECI is a growth inhibitor for endothelial cells but has no effect on smooth muscle cell growth. ECI also blocks growth of endothelial cells induced by bFGF and VEGF. The factor is distinct from OSM, LIF, TGF-beta-1, and TNF-alpha.
