[F-box domains, F-box]
This domain comprises 42-48 amino acids. The name derives from its occurrence in cyclin F (Bai et al, 1996), but the F-box domain occurs in a variety of proteins. Bai et al (1996) have recognized this domain as a protein-protein interaction motif.
The F-box motif is generally found in the amino-terminal half of a protein. It frequently occurs together with other protein motifs (most commonly leucine-rich repeats and WD repeats) in the carboxy-terminal part of the protein. Human and mouse F-box proteins are named often according to the presence of an F-box domain and other domains
