FAIM has been identified as an inducible effector molecule that mediates resistance to cell death by apoptosis mediated by FAS (CD95) produced by surface immunoglobulin engagement in primary B-cells (Schneider et al, 1999).
FAIM is highly evolutionarily conserved, suggesting an important function throughout phylogeny. Two alternatively spliced forms have been identified.
