FGF20
(approved gene symbol) [Fibroblast growth factor-20] This protein is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family of proteins. Human and rat FGF20 show 95 % amino acid identity. FGF20 is most similar to FGF9 and FGF16 (70 and 62 % amino acid identity, respectively). The human FGF20 gene maps to chromosome 8p21.3-p22.
FGF20 is expressed in normal brain, particularly the cerebellum, and in some cancer cell lines. FGF20 mRNA is expressed preferentially in the substantia nigra pars compacta (Ohmachi et al, 2000).
Recombinant FGF20 protein induces DNA synthesis in a variety of cell types and is recognized by multiple FGF receptors.
