[coagulation factor X] abbr. FX; approved gene symbol: F10. Factor X is the zymogen of factor Xa [activated factor X] and is activated either by an intrinsic pathway (contact-activated) or by an extrinsic pathway through tissue factor. Factor Xa is a serine protease that, in combination with factor V, activates prothrombin to form the effector enzyme of the coagulation cascade (review by Cooper et al, 1997).
