[FBR-MuSV-associated ubiquitously expressed gene] approved gene symbol: FAU (abbr. also: FAU1).
This protein is encoded by a gene that is the cellular homolog of the viral fox sequences in the genome of the Finkel-Biskis-Reilly murine sarcoma virus (FBR-MuSV) (Kas et al, 1992, 1993). The protein is therefore also being referred to as Finkel-Biskis-Reilly murine sarcoma virus Fau protein.
Fox sequences have been shown to increase the transforming capacity of FBR-MuSV in vitro. The virus has acquired the genomic Fau sequence in its reversed transcriptional orientation (Michiels et al, 1993). The mouse gene has been characdterized by Casteels et al (1995).
