Fibroblast interferon

The abbr. IFF [IFN fibroblast] is used in older publications. The complete amino acid sequence (166 amino acids) of fibroblast interferon has been deduced by Derynck et al (1980) from the nucleotide sequence of the gene. The gene encoding fibroblast interferon is different from that encoding leukocyte interferon (Cavalieri et al, 1977; Taniguchi et al, 1980). Fibroblast interferon is identical with IFNB [IFN-beta, interferon-beta], and this term usually refers to IFNB1 [IFN-beta-1; interferon-beta-1]. See also: IFN for general information about interferons.
