This multifunctional peptide with the sequence FLGAILKIGHALAKTVLPMVTNAFKPKQ has been isolated from the skin secretion of the Chaco tree frog, Boana raniceps. Figainin 2 exhibits activity against Gram-negative bacteria, Gram-positive bacteria, arboviruses, Trypanosoma cruzi epimastigotes; it does not show activity against yeasts. Figainin 2 also has anticancer peptide activity and shows antiproliferative activity on cancer cells. The peptide is moderately active on human erythrocytes, and activates the oxidative burst in human neutrophils.
