abbr. hGC-1. This secreted glyprotein of 510 amino acids is related to olfactomedin. It is expressed specifically in response to treatment with G-CSF of cultures enriched for early precursors of myeloid cells (Zhang et al, 2002).
hGC-1 is expressed strongly in the prostate, small intestine, and colon, moderately expressed in the bone marrow and stomach, and not detectable in other tissues. The hGC-1 gene maps to human chromosome 13q14.3. The approved gene symbol is OLFM4 (Olfactomedin-4).
Sequence comparisons show that the protein is identical with GW112.
Liu et al (2006) have reported that this protein binds to cadherins and lectins and facilitates cell adhesion.
