GCAP2

[guanylate cyclase activator 2; Guanylyl cyclase-activating protein 2] This is an older designation for the gene encoding uroguanylin. GCAP2 is a retinal homolog of GCAP1 (guanylin) and shows approximately 50 % identity with GCAP1 (Gorczyca et al, 1995). guanylate cyclase C activating peptide 2 is a peptide of 24 amino acids identified by Hess et al (1995), who identified it as the 'circulating form of uroguanylin.' Immunohistochemistry shows that GCAP2 is localized to enteroendocrine cells of colonic mucosa.
