GRA1

this protein is a major (one of eight) excreted/secreted dense granule antigen of the obligate intracellular protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii. GRA1 is a 23 kDa calcium-binding protein, identified originally as antigen P24. It is secreted by tachyzoites and bradyzoites (Cesbron-Delauw et al, 1989). It induces humoral immune responses in mice and humans in the chronic phase of the infection (Cesbron-Delauw et al, 1989). GRA1 is protective in animal models of infection (Duquesne et al, 1991; Supply et al, 1999). Immunization of sheep with recombinant Mycobacterium bovis BCG producing and secreting GRA1 results in specific, partially protective cellular immune responses characterized by the production of IFN-gamma (Supply et al, 1999).

Lin et al (2010) have demonstrated that the expression of GRA1 in the endoplasmic reticulum of ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
