abbr. GLNN, GALN, GAL. This amidated peptide (GWTLNSAGYLLGPHAVGNHRSFSDKNGLTS) is expressed widely in the peripheral and central nervous system (Schmidt et al, 1991). The human gene has been cloned by Evans et al (1993) and yields a protein of 30 amino acids. The proprotein was named galanin after its N-terminal glycine and its C-terminal alanine.
