Gliomedin

Approved gene symbol: GLDN. This protein belongs to a larger protein family known as Olfactomedins, which comprises a diverse family of secreted glycoproteins implicated in development of the nervous system (noelins, tiarin, pancortins, gliomedin).

Eshed et al (2005) have identified gliomedin, which is expressed by myelinating Schwann cells. The protein is a ligand for two axonal immunoglobulin cell adhesion molecules associated with sodium channels at the nodes of Ranvier (neurofascin, NrCAM). Blockage of gliomedin expression abolishes or the addition of a soluble extracellular domain ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
