also HIN-200 domain and also p200 X domain. The acronym HIN stands for hemopoietic expression, interferon-inducibility, nuclear localization.
HIN domains are 200 amino acid long C-terminal domains (Dawson and Trapani, 1996) that comprise a pair of tightly packed OB-fold subdomains (oligonucleotide/oligosaccharide-binding folds) (Arcus, 2002), which appear to act as a single unit and function as a DNA-binding domain (Albrecht et al, 2005).
The HIN domain is found in a variety of proteins the expression of which is inducible by interferons (Dawson and Trapani, 1996). These proteins are encoded by ten or more genes that evolved by repeated gene duplications and form a cluster of adjacent genes on murine
