HMGN1

[high mobility group nucleosome binding domain 1; high mobility group nucleosomal binding protein 1]. This protein is known also as HMG14 [high mobility group protein 14].

HMGN1 is a non-histone nucleosome-binding protein in the nucleus that belongs to the HMG N family of proteins. It shows no homology to HMGB1. HMGN1 is a chromatin remodelling protein that reduces the compaction of the chromatin fiber and has been shown to enhance the stress-induced phosphorylation of histone H3 Lim JH et al, 2004) and histone H2A (Postnikov et al, 2006), and acetylation of histone H3 (Lim JH et al, 2005).
