Hepatocyte proliferation inhibitor

abbr. HPI (a term with multiple meanings). This biochemically uncharacterized activity can be isolated from the cytosolic fractions of rat and human adult liver tissues. HPI is not found in human fetal liver > 20 weeks of age.

HPI activity is found in proteins of 26 kDa, 17-19 kDa and 18-50 kDa and appears to consist of multiple proteins. HPI from rat and human sources have been reported to be identical. HPI appears to be an endogenous agent that inhibits DNA synthesis in rat and fetal chick hepatocytes, but not in malignant rat liver cells ... ... ... ... ...
