abbr. HEV cells; abbr. HEVs [High endothelial venule cells]; also: high endothelial cells. (abbr. HECs). These specialised endothelial cells are cells found in high endothelial venules, venous swellings found in secondary lymphoid organs other than the spleen. These venules also develop in non-lymphoid organs during chronic inflammation, and are found also in solid, vascularized tumors.
These cells differ from endothelial cells found in regular venules by morphology and phenotype and are involved in all steps of lymphocyte
