HnudC
[Human nudC; nud: nuclear distribution] approved gene symbol: NUDC [nuclear distribution gene C homolog]. This gene is the homolog of the nudC gene from the filamentous fungus Aspergillus nidulans (Gocke et al, 2000). The fungal gene plays an essential role in the movement of nuclei following mitosis and is required for normal colony growth.
HnudC protein (45 kDa) is larger than the fungal protein (22 kDa) and their sequences do not overlap. However, the 94 C-terminal amino acids of both proteins are 67 % identical. The C-terminal region of the HnudC gene fully complements the A. nidulans temperature-sensitive nudC3 mutation, which suggests functional conservation (Miller et al, 1999).
